Our Annual Harvest Offering Tradition
During December each year, a special offering is collected for some 60 specific ministries organizations and missionaries that have connections with our church family. This tradition started after World War I when our church family heard of people desperate for food. For the next 10 years, one or two railroad cars of beans were sent by this special Harvest Offering to Europe. Since then the generous giving has continued to bless many others who are sharing the Gospel and helping those in need.

Northern Michigan Relief Sale
The purpose of the sale is to help the hungry, the homeless, the war torn, the sick, the handicapped, and the illiterate, doing so, in the “NAME OF CHRIST.” Monies raised are channeled through Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) — the cooperative relief and service agency for Mennonite and Brethren in Christ church groups.
MCC, founded in 1920, has over 1,000 people in service in 58 countries around the world, and throughout North America in a variety of programs. Because MCC is a largely volunteer organization, nearly 93% of MCC funds reach those in need. Find out more about Mennonite Central Committee and its mission to relieve worldwide suffering.
Pigeon River supports this sale with volunteers, a fresh fruit pie and hot dog stand, as well as quilts and other products for the auction sale.
Come see what it's all about on the first Saturday in August every year. It begins the evening before the sale day with a gospel concert. Camping is available on site. If you would like to know more about this ministry contact the church office.

Partnering With Community Organizations
Our goal in starting new ministries is to involve all who can help. We want to work together with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ from all churches in the Thumb. The Thumb Breadbasket and the Huron County Hunger Relief Project are two examples which started at Pigeon River and are accountable to our church.

Huron County Hunger Relief Project
Hunger Relief Project was started in 2003 by Merlin Yoder who called a community meeting at Pigeon River. He invited farmers, business people, and individuals to join an effort to provide food security for those around the world who suffer from malnutrition and hunger. Farmers across Canada and the U.S were coming together with ideas on how to train people in remote villages of the world to grow crops in better ways and eliminate seasons of extreme hunger and malnutrition.
Since the meeting in 2003, around 15 local Huron County Farmers have volunteered their time, equipment and fuel to raise crops to be sold for this mission. They currently farm 250 acres of land with inputs donated by generous local AG suppliers and Coop elevators. Landowners provide free or reduced rent acres. Crops are grown and sold each year. This amazing Huron County community effort sends an average of $150,000 per year to help fund food-security programs around the world managed by Growing Hope Globally (GHG). HRP is one of 130 such projects in the United States. GHG manages 40 or more food security projects in 30 countries. They estimate over 2 million people now have food security. Donations are welcome! Every dollar is multiplied many times by our farmers and area AG suppliers!
